...AND ANOTHER THING...
Layering humor, rumor, fiction and little-known facts Rhea Giffin found a fun way to pay tribute to five renowned northwest artists in Poetic Pulp Fiction, a mixed-media artwork and poetry series set in box frames. Jumping off from the frame idea, Rhea has now steered her newest series into a more abstract adventure containing stories of our culture and time from a unique perspective blended with remnants from her Winsome Words and Curious Birds series. It is a stimulating collection.
Ms. Giffin established herself in the art world with her storybowl series in 1997, which incorporated her poetry with her sculptural creations. Since then her love for wordplay and sculpture have intersected in many ways. She has exhibited in fine art galleries and juried shows across the country. She has won several awards including the 2013 and 2012 Holmberg Best of Show award for her oversized cat sculptures at Art on the Green. She was one of eight local artists commissioned to create an 8ft. x 4ft. panel for a two-year exhibit at the Human Rights Education Institute in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Her art is featured in many international publications including the 2010 Lark Studio Series: Chairs, 500 Cabinets and the 2008 500 Chairs: Celebrating Traditional and Innovative Designs as well as In the Spirit of
We’Moon, a 30 year anthology.
